January 2011: The Art of Eliminating
January marks my first month as a non meat eater. Turns out, it wasn’t hard.
Now that I eliminate meat from my everyday menu, I find it quite annoying to explain to people why some people don’t eat certain food. I have to say that apparently, people are incredibly judgmental when it comes to eating habit. When I tell people I don’t eat meat, they instantly “label”...

Three years on Tumblr..
and now is the time to make the most of it TAGS.
I’ve been thinking to run a personal website for my blogs and portfolio, but I like Tumblr too much to switch to other “serious” platforms. Also, I don’t have the budget to hire a web developer and or designer yet. After I saw some commercial themes by Style Hatch, I thought, hey, I can just buy a theme and start organizing...

Don't Follow Your Passion
It’s an age-old story: Boy meets passion, boy follows passion, passion turns out to be a mirage and/or actually a big pain in the ass, despite how rosy it may have seemed from a safe distance. (And, ladies? You’re just as susceptible to this as men. Don’t think I’m giving you a pass.) There’s only one thing for it: abandon meatless aphorisms like “Follow Your Passion!” and take stock of...

Disneyland
Yes. I am 25 years old but last week was my first time to go to Disneyland. I went there for work. Nevertheless, it was a completely enjoyable journey.
Even in my adult life, it felt amazing to be able to talk to my favorite Disney characters. I tried to talk them out of character but I failed. They stay in characters from the moment they put their costume on. I asked Tinker Bell, “Aren’t...
Photojournalism (taken from Monsters)
Sam: don't they kinda bother you?
Sam: you need something bad to happen to profit from it?
Andrew: you mean like a doctor?
Sam: you know what I mean.
Andrew: let me ask you something. You know how much your father's company pays for a picture of a child killed by a creature? 50,000 dollars.
Andrew: you know how much money I get paid for a picture of a happy child? Nothin.
Andrew: you know there's foots me? Photographing tragedy. I don't cause it. I just document it. Everyone has to earn a living.
If you didn’t learn anything within the past decade that conflict...
– A comment on a YouTube video about unrest in Egypt that I wholeheartedly agree
I love what a week off Twitter does to my Tumblr.
Two film reviews and many whatnots. Great! It’s another way to feel productive. I missed out on a couple of things, so it was great to see a few tweeps for drinks last night (beers for them, smoothies for me - I’ll accept any boohoos with grace). I think I will take a week off Twitter once in a month so I can write longer pieces here. When you block voices, you can hear your own. Life...
Dictaphone
Cam: Does anyone have a dictaphone I can borrow?
Ade: Somebody borrowed mine.
Cam: Oh.
Ade: What's that? Dict-?
Cam: Dictaphone. It's from dictation..
Ade: Oh. I thought, because you emphasized on the..
Me: Dict.

The King's Speech
It’s easy to make people cry over patriotism and love stories, but without these elements, how do you make a film about a king that touches people?
The King’s Speech picks a difficult topic, yet it manages to appear as a marvelous film about a stammer king. Stage fright is something everyone experiences once in awhile. However, it is inevitable for members of the royal family, as you...

Ten things I love Thursday
1. The strangest dream: someone proposed to me. Yeah, shame I had to wake up! Oh no, does that mean it’s not going to happen?!?!
2. Woke up in the wee hours, packing my outfit for the day, being a total girlie for several minutes.
3. My new, olive-green harem trousers. And the chocolate skinny belt that comes with it. <3
4. Reading Matchbook. It’s very well put together. Loving...
Out of loop.
This week, I accidentally bumped to an old friend, while actually meeting a new friend.
Old friend: did you know B is just married?
Me: um, no.
Old friend: did you go to A's wedding?
Me: when was that?
Old friend: last month.
Me: yea, no.
Me: I haven't been in touch with my classmates, actually.
New friend: you must enjoy your job so much. When people enjoy their job, they tend to miss out on a lot of things.
New friend: but they don't really miss it.
It doesn't count. (so true)
Below is a part of my favorite post from Garance Dore.
Garance: “Yeah, okay, I downloaded it onto my iPad. Trashy lit on iPad, not as bad as real paperbacks, right? They practically don’t even exist. They don’t embarrass you sitting on the shelf, no one sees them, so yeah, they don’t count. You could read exclusively chick lit on the iPad and no one would be the wiser.”
Emily: “Aaaaaah...

Bend, snap, burlesque!
Burlesque is possibly the best feel-good movie I watched in awhile. It’s flirty, sexy and too fabulous to be true. I adore the costumes. I helplessly sighed at the sight of Louboutin shoes and Kristen Bell dancing (my Veronica Mars!). They have all things lace, glitter and feather that makes me want to reach the screen and steal everything! I also admire the choreography, score and...

THREE! Hah, it’s no longer Four.
– Bhim, who have shouted “FOURRR!” every working day at 4 PM in the newsroom for the past 2 and a half years. The new, earlier deadline applies as for today. Brace yourselves!
Hello, Monday!
It’s 7ish AM. I’m drinking coconut water, catching up with emails (!!!), downloading attachments and making drafts for my stories this week. It’s amazing how productive my mornings can be if the internet is actually WORKING.
January has been a tough one (it’s always been for the past couple of years), but I have a feeling that this week is going to be amazing. I am beyond...

Last night, I fell asleep while watching Disney...
Isn’t that just appropriate?
I woke up freezing in the hotel. It’s probably 11 degrees out there. Spend the morning drinking water to keep myself hydrated, and listening to this video while I’m dressing up.
The welcome dinner last night was ridiculously amazing. I have never felt happier. I TALKED TO TINKERBELL for crying out loud. And for the first time in weeks, I found it...

Another first time
Last year, I met this percussion group and was awed with the energy they pour into the music. Today, I was planning to go to a film screening, but things were uncertain so I decided to bail out and meet my friend instead. He’s a member of the group and yes, when the universe is being kind, some sources do turn into friends. So I spent the evening drumming. It’s fun, fun, fun! After...

Solid & sand
Do you know who you are right now?
When we first met, you were solid. Now it seems like you’re made of sand.
But hey, sand makes beautiful castle. A sandy beach is still a solid ground.
Thanks for the conversation. <3
Once in awhile, you need someone honest to tell...
Wake the hell up.
Approval
Boss: I don't think I've approved you going.
Boss: Are you gonna buy me gin from the airport?
Me: I'll buy you a Tinkerbell necklace from Disneyland.
Boss: I'd prefer gin.
Getting Onion Smell Off Hands →
Mom is making sure everyone participates in preparing for a family gathering tomorrow. I just peeled off some onions for her to cook. Most glamorous Saturday night ever! I love my family. And while we were washing fruits and putting them in the baskets, we danced to a corny love song on my sister’s cell phone. <3
A Survival Guide for the 26-35 Age Range in 2011
Work
Be a freelancer. Because working for yourself is the American/Global Dream. In today’s economy, though, be advised that what freelancing actually means is a) abusing food stamps, unemployment and food banks, b) being a barista, c) accepting the money your parents offer and d) having one (two if you’re lucky) client(s) that result in about 15% of (what you tell others is) your monthly...

Day 10, 2011: A recovering eater
I easily passed 10 days without meat (chicken, beef, duck, any animal with feet), coffee, cow milk and alcohol. On the weekend, I survived dinner at a fine dining with only a bowl of mushroom soup, hot tea with lemon (should have opt for water next time), and a bite of lava cake we share. That’s right, baby. Not a single drop of martini or spirit gets in! *fist*
As I suspect, dairy is a...

Day 7, 2011
I think 2011 is going to be the year to see opportunities to expand myself. I am now 25 and I have never felt so creative before, like everything is possible. Like every little thing I have been doing, no matter how random it is to each other, suddenly it’s all connected.
I have a wide range of interests which confuse me from time to time. And now, for once, all quotes from the people I...
