The art of storytelling

Yesterday, I received an invitation to join Cowbird. It is a simple tool to tell a story. For me, it’s actually like blogging, but they really want you to craft the story by adding a photo, location, character, dedication, or even better, sound. Each story is represented with an image and a title — you know, the way cover book does! I feel like I am in the bookstore, except I can finish each story in a few minutes.

So I spent a few hours reading (and listening!) heartfelt stories by strangers — about someone’s uncle, a love letter and a conversation with a child. I am mesmerized by their voice, it feels so good to have someone read a story to you out loud. You can notice the affection, the emotion. I am seduced and captivated. Just when I thought Internet cannot be any more boring with people who overshare! To avoid trolls, they disable the comment section. Oooh what’s not to love?!

It doesn’t matter if it’s fiction or non fiction, a diary or an observation, or simply imaginary conversation. Nobody. Cares. Just. Write. Tell. A. Story. People go to Cowbird because they want to read.

I really recommend this website to anyone who appreciate literature and love to write. I can totally imagine Cowbird as a useful sharing tool for writers, journalists, musicians, filmmakers, or anyone who have the passion in presenting a tiny bit of life. It’s like blogging, but the platform is so much better. WordPress is too rigid. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, they are all moving up too fast with tidbits and images. They are losing the in-depth perspective. I have been using Tumblr to post personal updates, but it is often drown in a sea of memes, over saturated images and SPOILERS! (Oh God I hate spoilers so much) Cowbird is where you sit down and take the time to read and listen — pretty much what everyone needs these days.
