Dad and his iPhone
“It’s useless for me. The connection is very slow and I make a lot of typos.”
My father views the tech world very differently than mine. When I told him BlackBerry is only popular in Indonesia, he laughed at me.
I told him the iPhone can do practically anything that BlackBerry could — and even better, but then he asked about BlackBerry Messenger. I just installed Flipboard, Instapaper and DocumentsToGo on his iPhone. He seems to enjoy Flipboard though, because he mainly use his phone to read news and swap links with his friends. It’s just a matter of remembering which button to tap.
Father said he wants to begin using Twitter after being a passive user for nearly three years (I set up a Twitter account for him so he can keep up with news, but keep his account locked). Finally. Most kids hate it when their parents learn about social media, I don’t. I don’t want to befriend or follow them. I just want them to know.
It’s sad that my parents can never understand my passion in tech (and travel). But it’s important to be in their shoes. I like how Robert Scoble reviews everything. He always refers back to his wife or family and ask how they would feel about a certain product. Their opinion matters. If it’s too complicated, most likely it is.
