Perhaps the more pertinent question then is not if gay people choose to be gay, but whether, on some level, straight people “choose” to be straight. In a society in which everyone is assumed to be heterosexual unless otherwise stated, coming out is still a leap that is not “chosen” easily. People don’t tend to do it unless they can’t imagine being any other way. “Choosing” not to consider that you might be anything other than the default though, especially if that default fits? That’s a cinch.
