Let the movie marathon begin.
Just finished watching The Ides of March. This movie cannot be any more American than that. It takes place at America today, things are all heated up prior to the upcoming election. George Clooney plays the running governor for the democrats and Ryan Gosling is in his campaign team. Clooney certainly has the look and public speech skill to run as president. Gosling plays the cool, brainy and quiet man, similar with his role in Drive, only with a pair of eyes that speaks more than his script will ever do. if a look could kill.. Film is directed by Clooney, but the story is just like any story that gets political, where you can’t trust anyone and the one who fooled the other ended up being disgraced and outplayed. I can’t say the twist is surprising, it’s a good thing I didn’t fall asleep (perhaps it’s the Gosling factor). The duo reminds me of Denzel Washington and Ryan Renolds in Unstoppable and Safe House, although Gosling, should we compare it to Reynolds, appears not as naïve. He knows how to play the game and plans to win it. The tagline says it all, as it hardly offers something new.
